My efforts to make my car look good again continue. I’ve spent many hours in the last week removing tint, and now that it is all done, I’m on to the stripe. The Plasti-Dip is coming off without too much difficulty using WD-40, and scraping it off. Seems not to damage the clear coat, so I’ll keep doing it. I’m repainting it anyway.

Looks pretty much like this now, all the stripe is off except for the roof and a little of the rear bumper. Badges were falling off the back so I pulled them off, still not sure how to get the residual glue but I know it will come off. Overall, a pretty big undertaking but I think the final result will be well worth it.

I’ve started a list of things left to do, and am hoping to knock most of them off this summer.

Looking good! I’ve always loved that model of Volvo! Pretty uncommon here though! :)

I am a huge fan of stock unless there is a really good reason to change something. The car is an S60.

The car is indeed not an S60, but an S40. They look so damn similar! And I largely agree, although I plan on a couple little touches to make it mine.

Oh it’s not even a question now, I’m gonna get the poly dome ones for the hood and fenders, not sure about the trunk yet.

Thanks! Where exactly are you, I see these all over the place! Although most are 2.4i models, and in much better condition.

Am I right in assuming this is an S40? I'm considering an S40/60 for my first car.

That is correct, and from what I hear the naturally aspirated 2.4i drivetrain is bulletproof in those cars granted it is manual. The auto transmissions tend to be a bit weak in Volvos. However, I talked to a parts counter guy who said he sold his V70 2.4i with 500k on the clock, just keep up with maintenance and it will treat you well. So far, the car drives superbly, and does pretty damn well on gas.

Should have been a question mark there - was not sure S40 or S60 ... rented an S40 in ... 2008? Nice car. The space behind the lower part of the dash, however, was ... disconcerting. Of course there’s no reason to have a bunch of stuff behind that console, but still ....

I actually kind of like it, makes it unique and a good place to store parking change.

True - I stored it in the armrest on the door in the ‘97 SHO ... long time ago. Now I just rent cars than have an EZ-Pass - I don’t have the time to slow down.

When I go down to DC to visit mom, it’s probably 50 or 60 bucks in tolls, but I’m going to get back home even if I have to use that expensive Lincoln Tunnel.
